  1. Have been reading this blog daily for months now. I hate for this to be my first comment, but the last image in your funnies really bothers me because it's entirely misleading.

They have done the classic trick of representing linear percentages in circle areas (where area is a squared relationship). For example, look at the comparison of the 13.5T debt to the 4T war. 13.5/4 = 3.375 right? So why does it look like about 10 of those smaller circles could fit inside the big one? because 13.5 squared / 4 squared is 11.39... It gets worse as the ratios get larger because you are squaring them. The 1.55T "rest of hemisphere's debt" circle could fit into that bigger circle in the range of 100 times.

The diameter of the circles is what the ratio is... but when you look at the chart, your brain understands it in terms of areas, not diameters. :P

I 100% agree that debt levels are crazy, so there is no need for whoever made it to do this. It just destroys credibility.

P.S. keep up the good work. I really enjoy reading!

  2. Thanks for the comments. I came across that one at the last moment and decided to add it. Doesn't really classify as a 'Sunday Funny', unless you consider the obscene levels of debt to be a joke (grins)

  3. Thanks to all who posted comments this week. Not enough time today to sit down and add a comment to each thread, but the comments (and links) are read and checked out.
